I chose this rating because i was very ill and a friend let me borrow her mini UV Sanitizing light. It worked sooooo good that i had to have one. My cats peed all over the house because i swear they knew i was very ill and trying to help. I know that sounds weird but who would argue that cats aren't weird??? In a sort of cool way that is. Anyway...the light completely eliminated all and i mean all odors from my bed, chair, floor, walls, desk, etc. They make a bigger one but this is easy to take along with you to the store or motel or hotel, etc. I would recommend it to anyone but specially to someone who cannot get ill. It works on computers, cell phones, keys, everything. If you go to the Verilux website they have a video from a local news company that did a review to see if the UV light was a deal or a dud and they said DEAL! That further convinced me i had to buy one. Get yourself one NOW!!!! Don't wait!!! With the flu epidemic and H1N1 going around and people dying...why wouldn't yu get one?!

I had one of these before but lost it during a vacation trip. This replaces the one I lost. It didn't have any instructions on how to use it which should have been enclosed in the box. I already knew how to use it. It works fantastic and helps keep items like my computer and computer mouse a bit more sanitary. I use it all around the house to keep down the germ environment under control. I use it on trips and in hotels to sanitize things there as we all know the rented rooms are not always sanitized properly during housekeeper cleaning. I feel better knowing that the bathroom, door knobs, light switchplates and other things we touch are bacteria free during the Winter when colds and flu are more likely to be spread around through contact with these common areas. I sanitize our pillowcases on our pillows if I don't change the pillowcases every day. My family has had fewer illnesses since I have been using this portable sanitizing travel wand. I love it!

So, it appears not everyone understands how UV works. Someone else posted a solid review with an explanation so I'll leave it to them to get the well-deserved kudos for that.

The wand itself is great. Small enough to toss into a suitcase or even a messenger bag. Runs on AA batteries and it lasts a long time (even with today's heavier use the batteries last for months). It has a couple of safety features: the lamp turns off if it's not facing downwards and if you leave it running for longer than, I believe, 10 minutes it will shut down automatically.

Since viruses don't really smell, you can't be 100% sure what's going on but unless you're trying to sanitize a surface you lathered viral particles on like jam on bread, this will do a number on viruses and other germs. It's not a guarantee since you're talking about particles smaller than dust but if you use it as directed (close to the surface and moving slowly), it'll be hard for anything to survive.

With bacterial and mold, you can usually smell the difference as the radiation blasts proteins and DNA to bits. Just remember that surfaces, however smooth they look to you, are often super rough so there could always be places where germs can hide. Still, I feel confident that this wand is taking care of the vast majority of germs when I'm using it.

I don't know if it's still made this way but mine has a sticker saying it was made in England. I bought mine back in 2017.

Lastly, a big part of the reason I wanted to post this is because of the price. Maybe, by the time you read this, they'll have fixed it but when I bought this it was $69.95. Not an outstanding price but given how well it's served its purpose for 3+ years now, I think it's a fine price. But today (July 2020), it's showing a price of $199 when bought from the manufacturer (other third-party sellers are selling for the original price or close to it). I'd like to think that it's just a mistake but if you're reading this and assuming that's a normal price for this product, don't. There's no way it's worth spending $200 on this device, however good it might be. It's competitors are at or below the original list price. They might not be as high quality a product but the quality doesn't justify a premium of $150. Either wait for them to fix that price (or come to their senses at least) or if they are stuck in some sort of price gouging heaven, consider a different product.

I love this product, especially when I am out with others or going somewhere for essential shopping.
I especially love having this when going to MD appointments. Many waiting room chairs are made of fabric so I can't wipe it down with a cleaning wipe. Clearing up some misunderstanding of the product

I am writing in response to some other reviewer whom used this product over a Transition Glasses and compared it to an hand held UV light. And other complaints I’ve read.

1. The product is an UV-C light product. It’s actually twice as harmful to your skin and cornea when use incorrectly. It doesn’t penetrate like UV-A or UV-B, but it’s still harmful and should not be used over skin.
2. Transition glasses reacts to UV-A and UV-B, because these are the two spectrums of light that penetrates the o-zone layer. The glasses under the UV-C will eventually turn dark if exposed long enough.
3. The video actually demonstrated the low penetration ability of UV-C. Wearing gloves when using the product will prevent your hands from over exposure.
4. The rattling noise this product makes is a fail safe device to prevent the light from operating when pointing up.
5. Consider wearing protective glasses when using the device. Our eyes don’t have natural reaction, like squinting, when our eyes look directly into it. So surfaces that reflect light will inadvertently be harmful to your eyes.
