Pelican quality at a surprisingly competitive price
This backpack is a cut above anything I've seen. The quality is pure Pelican. When this manufacturer says crush proof tablet case you can take that to the bank. This is by far the most well thought backpack, I was expecting it carry a steep price, but I was pleased that this product is very competitively priced.

Being someone who travels the majority of the year I was looking for something durable, comfortable and reliable. This bag has met all those expectations and more. Each compartment has limited room in each section and doesn't allow for too much clutter laying around in the bottom of your bag, let's break those down:

The Hardshell Section - Fits an IPad Pro 9.7 with a couple inches to spare. It has a nice divider for your keyboard to fit in the same section without slamming into your tablet.

Main Compartment - Fits a 15.4'' Think Pad laptop just fine. The tricky part about getting a ton of stuff in the main compartment is watching how much you put in the 2 lower compartments (lower back and lower front). If there's a ton in those compartments it won't allow things to go all the way to the bottom in the main compartment. There is also a mesh zip up pocket inside the main compartment that's really great for all your electronic wires and chargers.

Lower Front Compartment - There are several credit card/ID pockets built in, a passport holder, a key clip, etc. Super useful for your small office supply type of items.

Lower Back Compartment - I find this the most pain in the ass to get to but probably the most useful of the bag. If you're traveling and have expensive things with you this is the compartment to store them in. It's great for things you don't need to get to quickly (being that it's pressed up against your back while you're wearing it.)

Front Upper Compartment - Being a quick zip across the front this makes for a good catch all. Personally it's my receipt pocket so I always know where they are.

The Straps - These are incredibly comfortable and precisely adjustable. The buckles aren't so tight that it makes it a pain in the ass to adjust. The across the chest strap adjust up and down so it hits you in the chest in the right spot. The bottom waist strap cushions you nice across the the side of the hips and fits nice.

The Water Bottlle Holder(s) - These are a nice throw in option but remember these are only holding small bottles (16.9oz) of water and not your Contigo or Camel Bak water cups. This is probably the most disappointing part of the whole bag, plus there's nowhere to clip a water bottle. The space in the main compartment can hold a water bottle if you don't have too much crap stuffed in there, otherwise you're holding it. Which I know this sounds petty, however when traveling a bunch it becomes kind of a pain.

All in all, for the money, you can't go wrong. I've had significantly worse bags that I've spent a bunch more money on. I'd pay 5x more than what they're asking for this bag. To me it's incredible and very practical. It fits nicely in overhead storage on a plane and it will fit all the way under the seat in front of you.

The main complaint I read about was the weight. 1) You're carrying a Pelican case on your back, it's going to have some weight to it. 2) If you're use to carrying a drawstring lightweight bag then yes this is going to be significantly heavier. 3) It's not "heavy" but it has enough weight to it that you know it's there.

These were initially bought to hold tablets (and the tablets' accessories) for my boyfriend's fledgling side company while workers are out laser scanning chemical plants. These were bought so that people could carelessly shove them in the back of vans with a bunch of other heavy duty laser scanning equipment and the delicate tablets would remain unscathed.

I got to test out these backpacks in our house. The construction on the backpack is really, really solid. I have a SwissGear backpack I bought **for the same price** for school but it's already starting to fray and look worn. Comparing the quality of the materials to the Pelican backpack, I highly, highly doubt this backpack would get damaged the same way... I think the next backpack I buy will actually be from Pelican.

The case this backpack comes with is made with the same heavy duty material that they put the expensive laser scanning equipment in. I've been on a couple jobs and the cases really do get used and abused, not just by workers but by baggage handlers at airports and one has even been thrown off a ship and into the ocean. We've had cases for 10+ years that are all still in use today.

Pelican makes a great effing product.

Nice pack. A bit bulky and on the heavy side. Not a lot of nook and cranny storage. But I love anything pelican. Plus it's waterproof down to 3'. It's made well like all pelican products. I'm going to see how well I like it in a few weeks. The protective case is very nice. It has a place for your tablet and keyboard. The super nice thing about that is the padded divider to prevent rubbing of the two. Good stuff. Thank You!!

I have had this pack for 3 years in Orange. Liked it so much I bought a back up in black that i still haven’t used.

This thing is indestructible! I can’t image traveling without it.

I also purchased as set of packing cubes and when using those can pack an entire weekends worth of clothes, toiletries and my MacBook Pro and iPad, Bose portable speaker and headphones along with all cables.

I especially like the top handle which is super sturdy and makes walking airplane aisles easy.

This Backpack is awesome! Very comfortable, the build in case is easy access to my iPad. Even when is under the seat in front of me on airplanes. The only real downfall compaired to othe backpacks is I would like to see more usable smaller packets. ie: sunglasses or iPhone for quick access. Other than that another top notch Pelican product.
